It was just a matter of time. RAMAZUTTI, who had been knocking on the door in a number of graded stakes in 2006, got his first stakes win by taking the Gr.2 Mac Diarmida H. at Gulfstream Park.
The son of Honor Grades loved the turf, winning or placing in six stakes over the surface, including the Mac Diarmida. The graded win came at the daunting distance of a mile and three-eighths, which the then-5-year-old completed in a solid time of 2:11.86, one second off the course record. RAMAZUTTI would add a third-place finish in the Gr.3 Louisville H. at Churchill Downs to his resume later that year.
RAMAZUTTI had a busy season at age 4, making 10 starts—all but one in graded stakes company—and hitting the board four times. Twice he was frustratingly close, when missing by a neck to Silver Whistle in the Gr.3 Pan American H. at Gulfstream Park and again by the same margin to Silverfoot in the Gr.3 Louisville H. at Churchill Downs. In his final start of 2006, RAMAZUTTI was third in Calder's W.L. McKnight H.-G2 in December, which was run over a sloppy main track.
The second foal out of stakes-placed MINE INNING (by Mining), RAMAZUTTI raced until age 6, the latter half of the season over hurdles, and retired with earnings of $313,638 from 33 starts.
