“Edie Meeny Miny Mo. Did they catch the 7? No!”
Track announcer Frank Mirahmadi had fun with the name of the Dark Hollow Farm-bred filly after her thrilling stretch battle with Club Car in the $100,000 Regret Stakes at Monmouth Park on July 2. Edie Meeny Miny Mo dug in to win by a head and record the first stakes win of her career.
The speedy 4-year-old daughter of Upstart owned by Holly Hill Stables LLC easily cleared the field at the break from the outside post and zoomed through fractions of :22.29, :44.44 and :56.28. Club Car joined her on the outside for the final eighth of the six-furlong stakes and the two favorites were inseparable as they charged to the wire. Final time was a very quick 1:08.71.
The win was the fourth in seven starts for Edie Meeny Miny Mo, and her second consecutive at the Jersey Shore track. In her only other start at Monmouth she was second when caught late in the Gr. 3 Monmouth Oaks last July. The first career stakes winner for her trainer Michelle Hemingway, she now has earnings of $211,194. “She’s a class filly,” said Hemingway. “She has shown she can do this in the mornings. I’m glad it translated into the afternoon.”
A statuesque dark bay, Edie Meeny Miny Mo stood out at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-year-olds in training sale in late June 2020. Prepared and consigned by Cary Frommer, she sold to Sallusto/Albina, agent, for $400,000– the second-highest priced filly of the sale.
Out of stakes winner Plum (by Pure Prize), Edie Meeny Miny Mo represents three generations of runners bred by Dark Hollow Farm. Plum was the 2011 Maryland-bred champion 2-year-old filly after capturing three straight races, including the Maryland Juvenile Filly Championship Stakes, and joined her multiple stakes-placed dam Bamba (by Not For Love) in the Dark Hollow Farm broodmare band.
Plum has since produced six named foals. Of her four to start, three are winners, including current Dark Hollow Farm runner Toy (by Tapizar), an allowance winner of $115,500.
