Bred by Dark Hollow Farm out of Munchkin Michele, BAMBA was sold as a yearling to trainer John Scanlan, who campaigned her to an impressive career on the track. From 11 starts, she earned $92,680 while racing exclusively in Maryland, and hit the board in four consecutive stakes—a second in the What a Summer and thirds in the Smart Halo, Politely and Squan Song.

BAMBA was purchased privately upon her retirement in 2004 and brought back home to Dark Hollow. Her first six foals of racing age (through 2016) are all winners, including Maryland-bred champion 2-year-old filly of 2011 PLUM, winner of the Maryland Juvenile Filly Championship Stakes, and U Boat Alley, an earner of nearly $150,000.

BAMBA's 2013 2-year-old filly by Pure Prize, a full sister to PLUM, sold for $240,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic May 2-year-olds in training sale, the most expensive Mid-Atlantic-bred of the sale. Named BREAD AND BUTTER, she won her first two starts impressively at Churchill Downs and Oaklawn Park.
